Inspired by the historic "Scholares Vagantes" cycling relay run by the University of Padua, teams from Consorzio RFX and ITER will cover 10 stages across northern Italy and Provence to promote fusion energy research.
The start will be in Padua on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The Eurovelo 8 route takes in Cremona, Piacenza, Pavia, Asti, Cuneo to Ventimiglia on the French border, where the Italian team will be joined by the ITER cycling team. Together, they will pass through Cannes, Toulon and Marseille to reach ITER headquarters, where the "equipes fusione" are expected on Thursday, September 19.
Stopovers are planned in Piacenza, on the Politecnico Milano campus, and in Pavia, at the University of Pavia's Museum of Electrical Technology, where the team will engage with local communities, while celebrating 65 years of fusion science in Italy. In Marseille, the cyclists will join fusion students and teachers from the University of Aix-Marseille before embarking on the final leg to the finish line at ITER headquarters.
On Wednesday September 18, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Charve amphitheater on the Saint-Charles Campus, a public discussion will be held on issues relating to Nuclear Fusion.
